Scunthorpe Deny Move For Allen

By: Richard Lord
Date: 22/02/2002

IT now appears that Grimsby striker Bradley Allen is not heading off to join up with ex-Town boss Brian Laws at Scunthorpe United. Allen, who was told he could leave on a free transfer if he found another club, looks likely to stay at Blundell Park until the end of the season.

Grimsby Town's official web site contacted the Iron boss who said: "You can quash those rumours now, there's nothing in it." Gtfc.co.uk then spoke to Groves, who added: "As far as I am concerned Bradley is a player with this club, and he's going nowhere. He has a big part to play in our survival."

Allen made his first start of 2002 for the Mariners last week in the 1-0 win over Sheffield United. The former Charlton striker's contract expires in the summer and could leave for nothing if another club came in for him.

Scunthorpe United were looking for a striker to fill in at the club because of injury and illness, but now any signs that Allen will be playing for the Iron before the end of the season appears unlikely.

It now means that Allen is in contention for a starting place at Forest tomorrow, and could be given the nod ahead of Boulding to play alongside new loan signing Martin Pringle.

It looks certain that the 30-year old will be at the club until the end of the season.
