Two New Trialists at BP

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 25/02/2002

GRIMSBY Town are to give trials to two experienced players in a Reserve Team match behind closed doors at Middlesbrough on Wednesday reports Mariners Net. Richard Dryden, a defender from Luton, and Gary Ablett from the USA will be given a couple of games to prove themselves.

Richard Dryden (32), currently with Luton, has played for no less than 13 clubs including Birmingham and Southampton. The 6 foot defender has been loaned out to Scarborough most recently before returning in January to the Hatters.

Gary Ablett Ablett (36) (left) who has recently been playing in America and is a free agent, started his career at Liverpool where he played over a hundred games for the Reds. He then moved to neighbours Everton and went on to play for Birmingham City, Derby, Hull, Sheffield United, Wycombe and Blackpool before heading off to the States.

Town boss Graham Rodger explained to Radio Humberside that the two players were being brought in as potential cover for the remainder of the season, if Town were to offer either of them terms. "We need to be mindful of the fact that we've only got Andy Todd for a month," Rodger explained.
