Robinson Makes It Three!

THE MARINERS have completed their third signing within 24 hours by snapping up former Newcastle striker Paul Robinson (left). He follows Willie Falconer and Terry Cooke into the club.
Town fans will undoubtedly be delighted at the fact that manager Paul Groves has managed to sign yet another player and yet another striker on the books means that there is no great rush for Bradley Allen to return to first team action. Despite earlier reports that Terry Cooke had signed on loan, he did in fact sign a short term deal after being released by Manchester City, which enabled Groves to make another loan deal on top of the Andy Todd loan from Charlton. The cancellation of Cooke's contract also means that if the Mariners were to stay up, there would be a chance of a longer term deal.
Robinson is currently playing for Wimbledon, who of course Town beat 6-2 on Saturday, but has struggled to hold down a first team place this season. He started off making his mark for Darlington, before he was snapped up by Ruud Gullitt for £250,000. He made 11 appearances for Newcastle and replaced Alan Shearer in Gullitt's last game in charge at home to Sunderland. He then secured a £1.5 million move to Selhurst Park, where he has never really made his mark. He had unsuccessful loan spells at Burnley and Dundee last season, and is undoubtedly a gamble for manager Paul Groves.
This now leaves Town with Michael Boulding, Bradley Allen, Willie Falconer, Paul Robinson, Phil Jevons, Jonathan Rowan, Steve Livingstone and Chris Thompson as the strikers at the club (albeit with Livingstone and Allen injured). This leaves Paul Groves with plenty of options in the remaining five games to change things if he needs to.
