Chapman For Recall?

By: Richard Lord
Date: 11/04/2002

AFTER picking up 10 bookings this season, regular left back Tony Gallimore is suspended for the last two games against Burnley and Millwall. It is expected that Ben Chapman will be recalled to first team duty as a result.

Chapman was told he could leave Blundell Park on a free transfer at the beginning of the season but he was given a reprieve by former Grimsby manager Lennie Lawrence.

Since then he has played in a number of positions including right-back, left midfield and left wing back.

David Smith is out with a torn hamstring for the rest of the campaign, paving the way for 22-year old Chapman to return to the first team.

The 5 foot 6 inch defender has been absent from the starting eleven since the 1-0 defeat at York in the FA Cup but played most of the game at Gillingham when he replaced the injured Smith.
