Contracts: Club Statement

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 29/04/2002

GRIMSBY Town Chairman Peter Furneaux described today the position discussions have reached with contract negotiations. He told Mariners Net, "Both Michael Boulding and Simon Ford have been offered considerably enhanced contracts."

"They are both contracted to Grimsby Town until the end of June, and we are in the early stages of negotiations with them both."

On Michael Boulding he said "Michael's gone on holiday today, and he will be looking at offers he has had when he comes back. That is what anyone would be expected to do. There is no doubt that we will be in competition with other clubs for his signature, but you would expect that of all players that we would wish to sign at this level."

"The club and the players are not a great distance apart. But these things take time. We've had a very early end to the playing season this year, so in many respects we are ahead of ourselves."

The Chairman also pointed out that the club was keeping an eye on other clubs, with hundreds of players in similar situations. "Again that is at an early stage, and we are keeping our options open. We shall be keeping a close eye on the situation ourselves."
