Croft To Help Town

Former Grimsby Town defender Gary Croft has returned to Blundell Park to pledge a four-figure sum to the youth system that gave him his chance in the big time. Croft who is leaving Ipswich to join Lennie Lawrence at Cardiff broke the news to the Grimsby Telegraph.

Hearing that the club needed to raise £100,000 to continue the youth development programme this season Croft said, "It was too good an opportunity to miss."

"With the current financial climate it was a good way of doing my bit for Grimsby to help keep the youth team going, and make sure this club has a future from the youth system upwards."

Croft joined the Mariners as a 16-year-old after being brought in by Alan Buckley and was a regular first team player until Brian Laws sold him to Blackburn Rovers in a deal worth £1.7 million.

Later he moved to Ipswich and is now going to Cardiff.
