Is football a business or a sport?

Steve Sherwood

Sherwood was an experienced keeper whose best form was under Alan Buckley in the promotion campaigns of 1988-1991. In that time his experience in the higher leagues at Chelsea and Watford was visible and he was a steady 'keeper. Unfortunately, Sherwood was prone to the odd clanger, which was understandable considering he was playing well into his forties. I remember him playing in a frosty game against Notts County in 1992 when he had a slightly dodgy game wearing a pink/purple top and tracksuit bottoms which was bad enough, but he was flapping at a few things to say the least. This continued at Northampton and Lincoln in later years as I seem to remember from the memories of Sunday night highlights on Calendar.

However, like many others, Sherwood was a great player for Town and should be remembered for his presence in goal in the successful early Buckley years rather than the clangers he dropped! He is still very much a supporter of the club and lives in the area, working as an insurance officer for Standard Life, and being a mascot when he was reserve keeper, I can testify that he is a very nice bloke!
