Town Pursuing Young Guns!

By: Graham Howes
Date: 25/01/2003

TOWN are at the moment tracking some young guns for the future. As first it was thought that Grimsby were not interested in pursuing Jamie Waite (16), the young Braintree keeper. Despite impressing in a trial match, finances were believed to have scuppered the club's chances of bringing him here.

However, since then the club has continued to monitor him and are now in a position give young Jamie a deal. Now a host of clubs are fighting to get the lad on YTS. Middlesborough have offered the lad a two year YTS but the teenager wants to keep his options open before signing. It is believed that as well as Town, Derby County are interested in signing the young Goalie.

Deane Stone (13) has been invited play in Town's Under 13's academy side in February to compete against Rotherham and Lincoln City. Deane is a midfielder from West Sussex, he describes himself as being very quick and two footed. Three other clubs are rumoured to be interested in Deane, which are Portsmouth, Southampton and Charlton. Considering he resides from the South and three clubs are around where he lives, it's doubtful Grimsby will succeed in netting Deane on geographical reasons alone.
