Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

No Thanks Grimsby Says Richard Hughes!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 14/03/2003

RICHARD Hughes said he would be a fool to leave Portsmouth thereby halting manger Paul Groves attempt to sign him on a permanent basis.

Hughes was interviewed by the Grimsby Telegraph and said; "When I spoke to Harry Redknapp about coming up here we both agreed it was a great chance to play seven games in a month. "It meant I could get my fitness up and, before this injury, I was really starting to feel strong."

"That's all we were looking at, at the time. There's only 10 days or so of the loan left but there are three games and it's important that I concentrate on them. There's a lot of football still to play here. We'll see how next week progresses. I'm enjoying the games here."

"I've still got two years left on my contract at Portsmouth. I just moved there last summer and it's a great time to be involved. It's not a time to jump the ship."

For Saturday's game, Paul Groves will be naming the same side as last Wednesday if Hughes is fit. Pouton will play his last game before beginning his 4-match ban, which could be increased to six matches depending on the FA disciplinary committee.

Grimsby Town: Coyne, McDermott, Gallimore, Ford, Santos, Campbell, Oster, Pouton, Groves, Hughes, Mansaram, Allaway, Barnard, Livingstone, Chettle, Bolder, Thompson, Soames, Cooke.
