The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Deadline Day Summary

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 27/03/2003

GRIMSBY have failed to sign Des Hamilton after not being allowed to secure a Welsh player on a two month contract, and having used their entire loan quota up for this season. With the John Oster deal scuppered, despite an eleventh hour bid to sign him, Michael Keane was the day's only acquisition.

Portsmouth's Richard Hughes, however, has extended his loan spell at Blundell Park by another month, but John Oster has now definitely departed.

The Grimsby board claim to have found the cash to sign Oster on a permanent basis from Sunderland, but the Welsh winger is understood to have rejected the terms because of Grimsby's possible Division Two status next season.
