Farewell Macca And Santos? - But Hello Livvo!!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 14/05/2003

PAUL Groves has had further talks with George Santos at Blundell Park but without much success. Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph; "I spoke to George yesterday but there are no further developments."

But with players facing wage cuts it is only expected that Santos will be looking to get the best deal and Groves faces another disappointment with the news that Macca will almost be certainly going to Hull City for 'personal' reasons.

But what do you know? Livvo is standing with the troops and looking for a contract!

He told the Grimsby Telegraph: "I was told to take a three-month break before Christmas and I was put on more medication because of things that I was suffering from that I don't want to go into. They're private things but the doctor told me that I could be putting myself in further jeopardy. I didn't listen to him and I just kept going. Getting a result every Saturday, that was the focus."

"I kept telling everyone I was okay but, in hindsight, I wasn't. I should have taken the specialist's advice and not played. Maybe then I would have come back in February or March fresher and more like myself."

"The club has to get sorted financially and you can't argue with that. But there has to be a squad that's big enough to make a challenge in the second division. I can accept that, with my age and situation, I'm in limbo-land. The uncertainty isn't very nice but you can understand it."

"I've been told that the priority is to get all the positions filled and get a team out. It's been dragging on and on but I want to stay at the club. I know it's Div Two and it will be on Div Two money. The first-team lads that have been offered deals are being asked to take 50 per cent pay cuts and that's before they get down the line to me!"

"But I know I can do a good job in Division Two - wherever they want me to play. I think I've got something to offer."
