"No disrespect to the likes of Grimsby..."

sunday 5th october

The Old Firm

From The Herald

The Old Firm's unrelenting attempts to break free from the SPL and move to more lucrative English competition seems to be doomed as the FA Premiership stated categorically last night that their members have no desire to allow Scotland's big two to join their set-up.

News that they are not wanted, or needed, by the world's richest league came less than 24 hours after Rangers' commercial director, Martin Bain, claimed that there was "no reason" why they and Celtic should not be playing in the Nationwide League in time for the 2003-04 season.

Even if such an undertaking was possible, since the Premiership clubs would use their constitution to block any promotion to the elite division, it would be a pointless exercise for the Old Firm, who would consequently be trapped in the first division, facing annual trips to Grimsby, Sheffield, and Stoke rather than taking on Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

Souness

From goal.com

"It would be nice to get something from our very first Premier League game although we realise it is going to be a long, hard season. ``We are back where we wanted to be. This time last year our aim was to get into Premier League. ``People say it´s a difficult start at Derby and then meeting Manchester United and Tottenham. But I would rather be facing these clubs than Grimsby, and that´s no disrespect to Grimsby, and several other places."

John Oster

From 4thegame.com

The youngster has moved to a club which has struggled in recent years to live up to its status as one of the so-called 'Big Five'.

But he said he had been impressed by what he had seen on Merseyside, especially compared to what he had been used to at Blundell Park.

"Here at Everton the training facilities and the ground are just a world apart really, they are different class.

"No disrespect to Grimsby but it is like David and Goliath really in the size of the clubs."
