Alexander and Out

KEITH Alexander, one of the most fancied runners for the post of Grimsby Town manager, has effectively ruled himself out of the contest after putting pen to paper on a new contract with Lincoln City.

On Saturday afternoon, Alexander signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at Sincil Bank until the summer of 2006.

This means that four of the favourites for the post have either ruled themselves out or distanced themselves from becoming the new Town boss. Former Town striker Keith Alexander has now joined Nigel Clough (ruled himself out), Alan Buckley (not applied) and Steve Cotterill (now at Leicester), all of whom look unlikely to take over.

With caretaker manager Graham Rodger currently enjoying a mini-revival since taking over the reins, the board are probably in no rush to appoint a successor to Paul Groves, who was dismissed nearly three weeks ago. However, former Boston boss Neil Thompson is the latest unemployed manager to be spotted at Blundell Park....
