The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Will He Or Won't He?

WITH Grimsby Town yet again looking for a new manager, a lot of supporters have forgotten about John Fenty’s multi-million pound windfall and if and when it will affect Grimsby Town.

Just before the season had finished it was reported that our majority shareholder had sold his business for £20 million+ and wouldn't comment on how this would affect GTFC.

With Mr Fenty being a secretive man - unlike his predecessor Dudley Ramsden - it is hard at the moment to speculate on his next move. But with him being an astute businessman we can expect the unexpected as he has set about propping up our beloved club to keep it from the administrators with very little press exposure. We don't know how much exactly him and the other directors have contributed but without their help it's certain we wouldn't be watching the football club either.

There are various ways of looking at Mr Fenty and the way his money could help the club if he wants it to. The first is to fund the new manager's wages himself and/or provide him with a big transfer kitty to help the club from the basement division.

Secondly he could renege on the agreement where none of the directors buy any NEW shares in the share issue that has been going on for over a year now and buy the rest of the shares that are still on the open market having not been bought by the supporters - this would give the club more money for next season

Thirdly he could have deliberately sold his business knowing he would have to protect the money he’s already ploughed into GTFC by using his business know-how to make more money earmarked for Blundell Park , without losing face with the supporters.

So hopefully in the near future something will happen and Mr Fenty will carry on being our club’s saviour and keep Grimsby Town in the black!
