Crofty Comes Home!

FORMER Mariner Cary Croft has returned to Blundell Park nine years after leaving the Mariners in a big money move to free-spending Blackburn. The left-sided defender has signed a two year deal and is expected to feature against Oxford.

Croft has spent the last nine years mainly in the top two divisions at Blackburn, Ipswich and Cardiff. The former Bluebird has missed more than a year through injury, and was released by City at the end of July.

Young Gary Croft was one of Grimsby's finest players of the 1990's and could play virtually anywhere in defence or midfield. The Burton-born defender began his career at Town, but soon attracted the attentions of the top clubs and joined Rovers for a whopping pre-Bosman transfer free of £1.7m, a club record that is likely to stand for several decades!

In a more mysterious move Town also today snapped up striker Calvin Andrew on a one month loan from Luton, just 48 hours after Town offloaded one of their existing strikers (Jermaine Palmer) to Scarborough for a month. With Grimsby's injuries being mainly in midfield Russell Slade could be planning to shuffle his pack, leaving a spare slot up front.
