"We Deserved To Win"

Lennie Lawrence believes that his battling Mariners were unlucky not to win Wednesday night's encounter with Wimbledon. The game ended in a 2-2 draw after Richard Smith had given Grimsby an early lead, but Lawrence believes that his side was the best on the night.
After taking a 20th minute lead, the Mariners were hit by a double sucker-punch just before half-time as the Dons took advantage of lapses in the Town defence - a situation which is becoming far too commonplace. Jason Euell equalised for Wimbledon before Trond Andersen swept the London side into the lead right on the stroke of half-time. However, Lawrence was pleased with his side's performance, as he commented after the match: "We have come back from behind, and we don't often do that away from home, so that is a big thing for us. It is like winning, although this time we probably deserved to win." Having conceded 15 goals in their last 6 matches, Lawrence's concerns now lie mainly with the Mariners defensive generosity: "We are making the chances and getting a few goals at home, that doesn't worry me, we have just got to stop conceding so many soft goals. "We didn't defend too brilliantly, but we certainly showed some desire to win in the last half an hour when the ball was raining into our box, so it was pleasing and we have taken a step forward." The Grimsby boss was particularly pleased with the contribution made by young, on-loan midfielder Stuart Campbell, as he said: "Stuart really livened up in the second half, he has got good legs, and that was a plus for us. "He is a good little player, and for the goal it was a good cross from him - David [Nielsen] got across the keeper at the right time." Mariners left-back Tony Gallimore picked up a knock on the shin during the second-half of the match and was replaced by Ben Chapman. The former Carlisle United defender is now doubtful for Saturday's home clash with Norwich City.
