Lennie Lawrence Moves To Sign Broomes!

LENNIE LAWRENCE believes he will sign Marlon Broomes early next week. Broomes who has been praised highly by fans and manager alike will complete his current loan deal with the Mariners after the Wolves game on Friday.

But Stuart Rowson in the Grimsby Telegraph reports that Manager Lawrence will be looking for an agreement with Blackburn and getting him signed until the end of the season.

However, Lawrence told the GET that signing him means he will have to trim his wage bill before he can bring in anybody else. At 24, he is too old for a year-long loan and the Mariners must either produce a financial package to keep him at Blundell Park or let him return to Lancashire.

Lawrence believes that the defender will sign a contract to keep him at the club until the summer after a board meeting next week. "We're hoping to bring it to a conclusion early next week. It's vital that we get him done," said Lawrence, who is preparing to offload some of the squad players he sees as surplus to requirements.

"We've got a lot of players available now after injury and I appreciate that it might well be that some of them have to get out on loan. We need Marlon here and I accept the fact that once he's in there will be nobody else until I can at least loan a couple of people out."

So far there have been no enquiries about any of the Town players and winger David Smith, is one who was mentioned as having a doubtful future at Blundell Park.

In his last season with Blackburn and Graeme Souness making it clear that he does not figure in his plans. Broomes is hoping that he will pay up the rest of his contract and allow him to leave.

"I don't want to go back to Blackburn and let everybody forget about me again. I want to stay here until the end of the season and see what happens then." said Broomes.

"Friday is my last game and my agent is going to speak to Blackburn and see if it can be sorted out so that I can stay."
