Dr Fishy's Player Of The Year - Week 3

LAST week it was Wayne Burnett and Menno Willems, so who will it be this week? For those of you who read my countdown column last week, you will know that both players this week are strikers. Now then, shall we begin?
I think one of them was fairly obvious. After being used as a substitute about as many times as he was given a starting place, in 18th position it is MICHAEL JEFFREY. The scorer of a cheeky goal at Portsmouth. Will that be how he is remembered? Jeffrey has been rewarded with an overall grade of C.
The one they call Bungle (although the real one is at Boston, Jeffrey is just Jeffrey) collected 63 points from nine Dr Fishy grades. If you do your mathematics correctly you will find he got an average rating of 7.0 out of ten.
Jeffrey enjoyed hitting the back of the net during the early part of the season. He scored at Portsmouth and against Sheffield United in the League Cup. On the same night he also scored the winning penalty to put Town through. Of course, everyone knows they went on to play and beat Liverpool at Anfield.
Jeffrey was given a grade C just once but he did collect a few Bs and Ds. His best grade was a B, although I can't recollect who that was against. His worst mark was a D, and that came against Buckley's mob when we played Lincoln back in August.
Jeffrey's best run extended over seven of the nine games (that's how many times he went without getting a D). His worst run was over just four games; so overall I think he wasn't such a bad fringe player. He just lacked the goals.
Jeffrey failed to receive an A or an E, but got two Bs, five Cs and 2 Ds. I think that spells out 'average personified'. He really got that down to a tee, after working so hard during the past two years to get there.
And so we move up into 17th place, and perhaps some of you will be surprised to see the name of PHIL JEVONS there. True, it is, but I think he can feel a bit unlucky to be down there. From recent news it looks as if the former Evertonian was playing with an injury for most of the season.
He was our second top scorer with eight goals over the course of the campaign. In total, Jevons was marked 25 times and received 176 points. That equates to an average rating of 7.0 also and an average grade of C.
Jevons received a C 28% of the time but the season looked so much brighter at the start. He scored against Lincoln, Barnsley and Coventry and appeared to be a very shrewd investment by Sir Lennie.
But as his confidence drained away, so did his performances, and apart from one last good game against Portsmouth, he was hardly seen again. His highest grade was surprisingly just a B, possibly at Liverpool or against Portsmouth.
His lowest mark came against Watford (D+) but he also achieved the very same grade on two other occasions. My guess is that they were against the other Watford game and Walsall.
Jevons' best run went over a 10 game spell, but his worst run also was the same. Basically, from when the team played badly, he did also. It was a pity that his performances went down the drain but he did look lively on a couple of substitute appearances near the end of the season.
Overall Jevons got no As, five Bs, 16 Cs, four Ds and no Es. Overall I'm sure he'll better that next season, if he is fit in time.
So week 1 saw two midfielders, week 2 has seen two strikers and week 3 will be two more midfielders. See if you can work them out.
