Ex-Leicester Chief Joins Town Board!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 10/12/2002

FORMER Chairman of Leicester City, John Elsom, who is a member of the FA Board, the International Committee and the Football League Board has joined the Board of Grimsby Town.

Mr Elsom stood on the terraces at Blundell Park as a young boy, and in his younger days was a junior executive with Ross Group renting a house in Brereton Avenue. He has served on the Leicester Board since 1984.

Mariners Net said today that he had contacted Peter Furneaux when he was wondering if there would be a 'meeting' of minds, and the Town Chairman showed considerable interest in co-opting the former Leicester man on to the Board.

When asked what he would bring to Grimsby Town, the 63-year-old director said, "A knowledge of the FA, the Football League, but most of all enthusiasm, and following the team week-in and week-out."

He represents 20 clubs in the East Midlands as a Divisional Representative on the FA. Including 10 non-League clubs. He was quoted as saying that he believes that it is a pity that so many Premier League clubs are made up almost entirely of foreign imports.

Mr Elsom said that he will do 'as little or as much as my colleagues on the Board ask me to."
