Allaway on Grimsby Town

EX-Grimsby Town loanee Shaun Allaway revealed to the Grimsby Evening Telegraph that he's hoping for a favour from rival boss Sir Alex Ferguson as he starts to put last season behind him being on loan at Grimsby Town.

The England Under20 goalie spent the whole of last season as an unused substitute, which has left a bitter taste but now with Peter Reid at the helm he is hoping to step up in the pecking order at Elland Road.

Allaway is 3rd choice keeper but with Manchester United rumoured to be interested in Leeds No1 goalkeeper Paul Robinson, he could make the bench for the games in the Premiership next season.

New gaffer Peter Reid will use the pre season period to assess his potential.

"He had a word with me and it was the first time I met him", said Allaway. "He also said that the coaches had told him a lot about me and he told me to come back into pre-season training we'll see what you can do"

"My aim for next season is to get a place on the bench or another loan somewhere but that'll happen if I'm only if I am not playing! I'd go back to Grimsby, but not to sit on the bench. I need to be playing football."

"It got a bit frustrating. I was staying in a hotel the whole time as well and that didn't help. It was a good experience and I enjoyed playing in the reserves. But they didn't play every week and that's what I needed.

"I was disappointed at the end, especially in the last two games when we were relegated and I would have loved to have played at Reading. I asked if I could, and the manager said he would think about it. But he ended up playing some of the other lads instead. That was disappointing" END

If Allaway does well at Leeds, Paul Groves will be sorry he never gave him a chance. With Croudson released and rumours of Coyne leaving, he might have lost a chance of signing a good replacement.
