Terry Butcher Sacked

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 11/12/2007

BRENTFORD manager Terry Butcher has today left Brentford "by mutual consent" after just six months in charge. The defeat by Grimsby Town on Saturday proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the club's directors. Butcher joins the long list of managers for whom defeat by Grimsby was the final straw.

Butcher took over at Griffin Park in May after the club's relegation to League Two last season. The Bees have gone six league games without a point or a goal, culminating in Saturday's game when Grimsby survived a lot of pressure on their goal from Brentford, only to score themselves with a well taken strike by Gary Jones.

Martin Allen is expected to take over the South London club, whom he left in the summer of 2006 to join MK Dons.

Ironically Grimsby boss Alan Buckley was rumoured to be required to avoid defeat in Saturday's game to himself avoid getting the sack. The cut throat world of football management has seen several casualties in the nether reaches of League Two. In addition to Brentford the list of clubs threatened by relegation who have parted with their managers includes Lincoln and Notts County.
