Farsley Celtic Thrash Town

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/07/2008

GRIMSBY'S poor pre-season form continued this evening with a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Blue Square North outfit Farsley Celtic's Throstle Nest ground, with all three goals conceded in a disastrous second half.

Town lined up with a full strength side of: Barnes; Stockdale, Hope, Heywood, Newey; Till, Hunt, Clarke, Llewellyn; Hegarty, Butler.

Town shaded the first period and missed a Butler penalty, but the Mariners were second best after the break, and the West Yorkshire side soon were 1-0 up through Stevens, who then added a second midway through the second period. Celtic wrapped things up in the last minute through Prendergast.

Town were also beaten in a pre-season game at this stage last season.

The Mariners are next in action on Tuesday, when they take on Lincoln City in the Lincolnshire Cup at Blundell Park (7pm)
