GRIMSBY have finally completed the permanent signing of Barnsley defender Rob Atkinson after three loan spells at Blundell Park. The 21-year-old has put pen to paper a two-and-a-half year deal with the Mariners.
Atkinson impressed in the latter half of last season, and has been equally good in the current campaign since arriving in October. Atkinson has begun to form a partnership with 18-year-old Town captain Ryan Bennett at the heart of Town's defence.
Atkinson told Mariners Net: "It has taken a couple of weeks to come to an agreement and make the final decision but it is something I am happy with."
He added: "It's a two-and-a-half year contract which gives me that little bit of security and plenty of time to improve under the guidance of Mike Newell."
It has not been revealed whether Atkinson commanded a fee, although it seems likely that Barnsley who have wanted something for a promising 21-year-old still under contract.
