Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Four Funerals and a Signing!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/02/2010

TOWN trio Matt Heywood, Danny Boshell and Jamie Clarke have left the club after having had their contracts terminated. Club captain Heywood has barely featured since being signed by Alan Buckley two seasons ago.

Boshell and Clarke have both had spells in the team in the past, with Boshell having scored several notable goals, but both have fallen out of favour in recent months.

Town now have such a large squad that removing senior players who were never going to be used and have no prospect at the club is in both parties' interest.

In a busy day of tranfers at Blundell Park, the club have now revealed that long-serving striker Danny North has also been released. Grimsby-born North has struggled with fitness and consistency problems over the years and has never really realised the potential he showed as a youth player.

Meanwhile Southampton central defender Olly Lancashire is returning to Blundell Park until the end of the season. The 21-year-old had two loan spells under Neil Woods before being recalled to the South coast.

Grim Rob Says Good luck to all those who have left but there's no point getting sentimental about any of them. They weren't good enough to play for the second worst team in England (or rather we are the second worst team in England in part because of them), so other players are needed to replace them so that we can instead be the third worst team in England.
