Grimsby v Stevenage Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 27/08/2016

IT looks like Grimsby will make no new signings in time for the game with Stevenage at Blundell Park this weekend, although Paul Hurst is expected to strengthen the squad early next week before Wednesday's transfer deadline.

Winger Rhys Browne (hamstring) and defender Dan Jones (knee) have both been ruled out of the match. but Sean McAllister (groin) is close to a return.

The Town boss has no players injured, so any changes to the squad will be tactical. Town have suffered three consecutive defeats, that have partly been as a result of defensive mistakes, as well, of course, as not scoring enough at the other end. No player, other than James McKeown, who has no realistic replacement, can be certain of keeping their place in the side.

Stevenage, like Town have won one of their four games this season, although they have drawn 1 as well, which means are one point and one place above Town in the table. This is the first time that the teams have ever met, as Stevenage are the only team in the Football League who the Mariners have never played. Stevenage replaced Grimsby when the Mariners were relegated six years ago.
