Slade Survives - Again

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/02/2018

THE Grimsby Town board of directors have issued a statement saying they will not rush into sacking manager Russell Slade despite the poor run of results that have seen Town descend into outside contenders for relegation.

The directors said:

"Despite pressure and direction to do otherwise, the Board are firmly of the opinion that, with time, Russell and Paul will turn the results around on the pitch and assemble a team capable of challenging in League Two next season.

"In the fickle and volatile world of football in which we operate, Football Clubs far too quickly respond to demands to change managers with the hope of a short-term points boost."

The directors also said the club was available for any organisation or individual with the means to do so to take it over:

"we invite any interested parties who feel that they have the wherewithal to take over the financial and operational running of the Club without the existing Directors to approach the Club to discuss the process".

The directors also pleaded with the fans to get behind the club and pointed to the new signings Simeon Jackson, Easah Suliman, Charles Vernam, Jake Kean and Malik Wilks as a statement of their intent to strengthen the team for the remainder of the season.

The full statement is here.

Grim Rob Says: Russell Slade should have been sacked weeks ago, and the board's reluctance to do so is alienating supporters far more than the board's other activities. While new signings are welcome, the manager's reluctance to use them and get the best out of his staff is the root cause of the current dissatisfaction. If the club do not act soon season ticket sales in the summer are going to plummet.
