Town Fans Launch Appeal

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/05/2020

GRIMSBY Town supporters are helping to keep the club afloat during the coronavirus-induced hiatus via a Crowd Funding initiative. Town fan Richard Ladd has launched the fund with the aim of raising £50,000 in donations.

The club have welcomed the initiative as they have no income from match receipts or season ticket sales, but still have staff costs and other expenses which they need to meet.

English football may resume in late June or July, but it's unlikely there will be any spectators so the Mariners and other League Two teams will receive no income, other than possible income from online streaming of games. Realistically with Grimsby not involved in the play-offs there is unlikely to be any football before September.

Grim Rob Says. It's down to individual supporters whether they help the club and obviously people's personal circumstances differ enormously. The club, though, have to survive through this period, by some means or other. The fans showed with their Operation Promotion initiative in 2015 that they can mobilise to produce significant amounts of cash, and the target is certainly not beyond the fan base.

The crowdfunder appeal can be found here.
