Galli Suspension Blow

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/02/2002

TONY GALLIMORE has had an appeal to the FA turned down which would have reduced the left back's suspension for being sent off against Watford to just one game. Instead the club's Vice Captain will serve a three match ban for the Vicarage Road dismissal, missing a trio of vital fixtures.

The left-back, who will celebrate his 30th birthday on Thursday, misses the home games against Stockport and Palace, and the away game at Gillingham. Ben Chapman is expected to take Gallimore's place on the left side of defence in the Crewe-born defender's absence.

The incident in which the former Carlisle left back was dismissed came just after a scandalous refereeing decision, in which Watford's second goal was allowed to stand even though play had practically ground to a halt after a linesman had flagged the Hornets offside.

With centre back Paul Raven currently expected to be out of action for around two weeks with a hamstring injury, and right back Alan Neilson having been released today, Town's rearguard could once again be severely stretched over the course of the next few games.
