Is football a business or a sport?

PAUL Groves has promised that Phil Jevons will get his chance for Grimsby Town but from what he says it looks like it might be a long time coming.

Groves confirmed that he will not get his chance against Peterborough as he is continuing with the "much-needed physical presence" of Iffy Onuora.

In talking to the Grimsby Telegraph about Jevons and the game against the Posh, Groves said; "Jevvo has done well in the Reserves. He's sharp in training. I'm sure at some stage he will get his chance."

"But we need somebody to be able to secure the ball at times and make it stick up there. Jevvo is a different type of player to that. He plays off people's shoulders and tries to play off people. We'll look at it."

"We're well aware of what he's doing in training and the goals he's scored. He can do no more. I'm sure his chance will come. You don't go through a season where everybody is fit and everyone is playing well and you're winning week-in, week-out."

"He'll get his opportunity. He has to make sure he's ready and that he takes it when it comes around."

Iffy Onuora also talked to the Grimsby Telegraph about the stick he is getting from the fans about his performances.

"Listen, if fans want to have a go then that's their prerogative. They pay their money and they're entitled to demand resolve and results. But I'm big enough to take any stick that comes my way."

"I'm not saying I don't think about it but I have to concentrate on what I'm trying to do which is score goals and play like I know I can. Okay, that hasn't always been the case for us and I accept that." "In terms of the stick itself, it doesn't concern me so much because there isn't a single fan out there, a single player who is a bigger critic of myself than myself. So anything that comes my way, the boos and that, is fine. That happens in football."

"What I'm concerned about is myself and my own performance. I've got to try and shake that off and do my best."

"Realistically, I have had chances and I should be sitting here with at least half a dozen goals because I have had chances. I realise that and I accept that. It's not like I'm dismissing any claims I should have scored more goals. I'd be the first person to say that. But I've been around long enough to know that things can change very quickly. You can go on a run of scoring goals just as quickly as you can go on a run of not scoring them."

"The idea is not to get too carried away when things are going well and not to get too downhearted when things don't go so well. That's something I've always tried to keep in mind. There won't be anyone trying any harder than me come the next game."
