The Opposition

Overview

Stanley fans could hardly want any more. The midst of mid-table obscurity is pretty much perfect for any team just dipping their feet in the football league unless you're Carlisle in which case you just get greedy. Since Accrington took us to pieces at the start of the year they have gone from 3-0 wins away at Bradford to being well and truly destroyed 5-0 at MK Dons only a few weeks ago. Being inconsistent is what any bored teacher would write on their half term report, room for improvement and must stop looking up the girls' skirts, or is that just mine? Otherwise a negative goal difference is the only put down, on their second season back in the league. Some performances have been worrisome and recent results haven't been anything to worry about but until they find themselves being slowly dragged back into the relegation fight it will be a season worthwhile for Stanley.

The Team
A fairly young team Accrington can boast one of the youngest average ages in the league and as such a swift counter attack to go with it. In the experienced goal scorer Paul Mullin (left) Stanley have a consistent outlet to create and add those essential goals which Town so desperately lack but recently it's been somewhat of a dry spell for Mullin with only 2 goals in 810 minutes of football, but when you get 2 in 90 against us in September it's best I kept quiet about the poor run of form. In support Mullin can count on Roscoe D’Sane, the 27 year old has 6 goals to his name including a couple against Macclesfield and Bradford of late. D’Sane got the winner against Chesterfield on the 15th and has improved in his performances too.

Key Player
The home grown talent of Andy Proctor is one that many a bigger club is keeping an eye on. With five goals from the midfielder and two against ourselves the youngster is one to worry about when Stanley are striding forward from a counter attack. With a vast array of passing at his disposal Proctor can shred a defence to pieces with one simple pass and can hold up the ball for support well too.

Team News

TownAccrington

  • Danny North returned to training after missing the Stockport game through illness. He will have to battle for a place along with Martin Butler and Gary Jones, who has a ankle problem which caused him to be substituted on Saturday.

  • Justin Whittle has fully recovered from his ankle problem but is unlikely to get beyond the bench.
  • Accrington boss John Coleman will select his side from an unchanged squad as he has no fresh injury concerns.

  • Captain Peter Cavanagh (hernia) is unavailable, while goalkeeper Kenny Arthur is a long-term absentee with a broken leg.

    Head to Head

Town have a decent record against Accrington, although most of it is so long ago as to be of little relevance. Grimsby though have won all twelve games at Blundell Park between the sides, some record!
