Grimsby v Bury Preview

By: Alex Green
Date: 13/02/2009

A POINT gained in the capital seems to be the majority consensus after the mid week game in Barnet this weekend though The Mariners come face to face with the team with whom they claimed their first of the season against, high flying Bury

Home > 2008-2009 Season > Previews > Bury (h)

Forbes and Elliot’s goal aside the game at Barnet was a wake up call for fans who believed Towns problems were far behind them 2-0 down with 20 minutes gone The Mariners did show they had improved to show the grit and determination needed to come back for a very needy point.

Bury who started brilliantly will hope they can push on for a play off tussle with those around them. We talked to Daniel Marris on the upcoming match.

The Opposition

Their History…

Not bad Two FA Cups jumping back and forth between leagues in a way only we can. Proud if just a little bruised still proud to be supporting the only real team in the area, sure we will see more United fans on our trip to Grimsby won't we?

Last Season Was…

Was about improving carefully and steadily, the season prior to last was too close for comfort what is it called "Squeaky bum time?" 21st place is unacceptable and like you were finding out were not too big to go down. So midtable with the faint hope of play-offs was good enough for me and building a team.

This Season Is…

Getting out of here now! I thought this year would still be an almost ran season but the club is performing phenomenally at the moment we won't finish as high as we are placed now, those around us have games in hand on us so its all about concentrating on ourselves. Play-offs would be brilliant and some further improvements with the team would be close to perfect.

Their Biggest Hero Is…

Craig Madden for me the guy was a right leg-end! Always there and 35 goals in one season just proves how essential he was to us. If only he could still play.

What do they think of Blundell Park...

Cold. But then again a few years back we had a beautiful weekend in Cleethorpes then you thumped us 5-1! Ta for that.

they're Most Proud Of…

2 FA Cups but that was over a 100 years ago been pretty low on things to scream about just like most clubs here. When cometh the revolution we will rule and we will relocate to Old Trafford as they will have gone in to receivership as we will make it illegal for any man to go further then 40 miles from their house on a weekend.

The Future Is…

Always unsure I want to be optimistic but something has to be done in the boardrooms and hallways of the FA for clubs like us to ever be successful again but the likes of Hull and Wigan all give us cause for hope.

The Most Famous Player To Have Worn The Shirt…

Fair few everyone of course bangs on about Kazim Richards he was never as good for us! To add to the list Lee Dixon, David Nugent and Neville Southall have all been here!

Their Key Player Is…

Andy Bishop for me bangs them in regularly enough and his goals have really put us in a great position and I hope he will stay longer when were promoted.

Prediction

A point will do fine thank you.
