Season Ticket Boost

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 09/06/2009 (Last updated: 14/03/2010)

THE feel good factor from the end of last season is continuing amongst the Town faithful as season ticket sales got off to a bright start on the opening day. 175 tickets were sold on the opening day of sales, buoyed by the reductions in prices which the club have brought in to try and increase their regular support.

A delighted GTFC accounts manager Steve Wraith told the Grimsby Telegraph: "It's certainly the best sales on the first day I can remember - the first few hours will take some beating. It was a similar sort of response that we usually get on the final day of sales - it was tremendous. We took over £11,000 in the first two hours and sold 52 season tickets.

"To get past last year's figure in the first two hours or so is something I can't remember us achieving in my time at the club."

Wraith was particularly pleased to see a number of new season ticket holders come through the door, responding both to the price reduction and expectations that Mike Newell's side could be going places next season.

"And the fact it was mainly new adult tickets made it even more encouraging. It's a fantastic show of support from our fans who are clearly in optimistic mood for the new season.

"New players have arrived and more are on the way so hopefully we'll get past last year's total of season tickets and recreate the big crowds we had at the end of last season."

Season tickets are on sale at the discounted prices until July 11 but existing holders renewing can get an extra £10 discount by using two vouchers published in the Telegraph every day this week.

Discounted prices are as follows:

  • Adults £299 (Upper Findus and Main Stands)
  • £266 (Lower Findus and Pontoon Stands)
  • juniors (aged 1-14) £70 in all stands
  • senior citizen's (aged 65 and over) £190 in all stands;
  • young adults (aged 15-18) £110 in all stands.

Season tickets can also be bought Online from the club

Grim Rob Says: With tickets on the day also being cheaper next season it's going to be good seeing Blundell Park fuller for most games, and the team will almost certainly benefit from all the extra support. With all the additional fans at games, season tickets of course are guaranteed a seat not only at home games (a couple of which sold out last season), but also at cup ties and away matches as tickets invariably go on sale initially to season ticket holders. With quite a few League Two grounds not having a large enough away end to accomodate all the Town fans who might want to attend games if the team are doing well then a season ticket is the only way to make certain you can get to every game you want to throughout the season.
