Last Gasp Town

FOUR goals in the last five minutes of the game with Woking produced a dramatic finale last night in a game Town looked twice to have lost. A 95th penalty by Lenell John-Lewis rescued a deserved point for Town after a Boyce own goal a strike from Murtagh twice gave Woking the lead.

Paul Hurst made two "tactical" changes. Scott Neilson came in on the left side of midfield in place of Paddy McLaughlin, and Connor Jennings was preferred up front alongside Lenell John-Lewis in place if Ross Hannah.

Grimsby started brightly and Disley went close in the first two minutes. Woking then came into the game and Betsy looked dangerous in the early stages.

As the first half progressed neither side had many chances. Grimsby appealed for two penalties but got neither - Craig Disley was booked for diving in one of them.

The second half was fairly quiet and it looked like petering into a 0-0 draw before suddenly the game came to life. With five minutes to go Town failed to clear a ball, Betsy's shot was initially saved by McKeown, but it ended up going in off Boyce.

Just when it looked like Town would come away with nothing, a moment of brilliance by Tounkara levelled things for Town, when he smashed the ball past Beasant to beat him on his neat post.

In stoppage Town Woking broke, McKeown made a save and Murtagh scored from the rebound. Town's celebrations has lasted just seconds.

However there was another twist. Right at the death Town won a penalty when Disley was hauled down in the box and John-Lewis took the ball to groans all round the ground, but the big striker scored with practically last kick of the game.

After the match Paul Hurst criticised fans who hadn't wanted John-Lewis to take the penalty saying "he'd rather they didn't come".

Town have another game against a part time side when they travel to relegation-threatened Dartford on Thursday night, before another match with a team in the bottom four on Saturday when Chester come to Blundell Park.
