Coyne Misses Welsh Recall

By: Richard Hubbert
Date: 12/03/2001

ON THE SAME day that Danny Coyne has been linked with a £800,000 bid from Bolton Wanderers, after an immaculate season between the sticks, he has sensationally been left out of Mark Hughes' Wales squad for the forthcoming qualifiers against Armenia and Ukraine.

27 year old Coyne, will be bitterly disappointed that the Blackburn veteran has not included him in a squad of four goalkeepers, after pinning his hopes of his first call up for years.

After practically bagging the player of the year award before Christmas, Coyne has maintained his form and has kept Town in so many games as the season has gone on.

Coyne, who was signed on a free transfer by Alan Buckley in 1999 from Tranmere, was left out behind Southamptons Paul Jones, Middlesbrough reserve Mark Crossley, Swansea keeper Roger Freestone and Notts County stopper Darren Ward.

This strange selection on the behalf of Mark Hughes leaves Town fans wondering just what Danny Coyne has to do to earn a place in the Welsh squad.
